Joshua L. Jewett advocates for employees rights in all types of employment law matters before federal and state courts, as well as in administrative and grievance hearings. For his work in representing employees, Mr. Jewett has been quoted in CNN Money and WVEC News 13, and some of his case results have been reported in the Washington Times, Virginian Pilot, WVEC News 13, and Virginia Lawyer’s Weekly.
The first case that Mr. Jewett took to a decision was a case of first impression in Virginia (Workman v. Commonwealth Department of Corrections, VLW No. 1011-8-146), where the Court Ordered the Department of Corrections to reinstate his client with backpay based on Mr. Jewett’s argument that his client’s discharge violated his Constitutional rights. Since then, Mr. Jewett has represented individuals across a broad spectrum of industries, from senior officials working in the federal sector to workers making minimum wage.
In addition to representing employees in litigation-type settings, Mr. Jewett advises management and decisionmaker employees in both the private and government sectors who are facing disciplinary action, possible termination, or are being forced out. Mr. Jewett has helped clients in these situations either keep their jobs or peacefully exit from their situations by obtaining a negotiated severance package.
Mr. Jewett received his J.D. from Regent University School of Law in 2008, where he was a brief writer for Regent’s nationally recognized moot court team. Mr. Jewett’s team at the 2007-2008 American Bar Association National Appellate Advocacy Competition was awarded the Best Brief and Regional Champions at the Washington, D.C. Regional.
Mr. Jewett is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, American Association for Justice, the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, and the Virginia Bar Association. He is licensed to practice in all Virginia courts as well as the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Mr. Jewett resides in Chesapeake with his wife and three small boys. In his free time, he is an avid follower of the Chicago Cubs and enjoys reading about theology and insider accounts of Washington politics. He is a member of New Life Church, where he serves as an elder and leads a small group.
